The structured interview schedule was used to collect the data from a sample of five hundred fifty-one citizens (N=551) employing proportionate stratified random sampling. The study aims to know the relationship between perception of health and demographic characteristics. Pearson’s correlation coefficient and Chi – square tests were used to identify the association between these variables. The results demonstrate a positive relationship between perception and awareness of health and negative correlation with knowledge. Chi-square test revealed that there is no association between perception of health vis-à-vis independent variables like age, gender, marital status, education qualification, income group, family size and socioeconomic status. The perception of health among citizens has a significant relationship with citizens self – rating of health and for whom they seek health information. The gap in information availability to the citizens may be the reason for a low knowledge of health. Studies are required to explore the possibilities to provide better health information to citizens. | | Keywords : | | - health
